Picture
Since first being admitted to the bar in 2006, Attorney Powers has developed a depth of skill and experience in trial and appellate advocacy.  For Attorney Powers, the art of legal advocacy demands a drive to find the right argument, to articulate it in the right way, and to support it with the right authorities.  Whether litigating before trial courts, appellate courts, administrative agencies, arbitrators, or mediators, Attorney Powers tirelessly pursues the right argument and the right presentation of that argument to put clients and co-counsel in the best possible position to win.

Law School & Clerkship
Large Firm Practice

Kevin J. Powers graduated magna cum laude from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts in 2006. He began his legal career serving as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Andre A. Gelinas of the Massachusetts Appeals Court and then practiced business litigation and construction litigation with one of the largest firms in Connecticut, working primarily out of that firm's Hartford office.

Prosecuting Appeals
Prosecuting White Collar Trials

Returning to Massachusetts, Attorney Powers served for five years as an Assistant District Attorney. At the appellate level, he briefed and argued criminal felony and misdemeanor appeals before the appellate courts of Massachusetts. At the trial level, he prosecuted white collar embezzlement, larceny, insurance fraud, and credit card fraud matters before trial court juries and judges.

Our Private Practice Today

Like a devoted jazz musician, Attorney Powers understands that legal advocacy truly is an art that depends first and foremost upon the passion of the advocate and his commitment to perpetually refining his craft.

Today, Attorney Powers practices law in the service of busy appellate and trial litigators whose demanding caseloads and high-stakes matters call for precision and focus.  It is a privilege to be called upon to ensure that an oral argument, a motion, or an appellate brief makes the most forceful argument in the most persuasive way possible.  The challenge and honor of working alongside highly skilled co-counsel drive Kevin to deliver sharp and incisive advocacy for every co-counsel and for every client.

For our direct clients, we offer relentless advocacy in seeking resolutions of litigation matters before trial is necessary or, when required by the case, at hearings, at trials, or on appeal.

Active in the community.

A truly rewarding life cannot revolve around one's own self-interest. Outside of the practice of law, Kevin has devoted much of his time to his local community of Foxborough, Massachusetts, from which he would be the first to admit he derives the majority of his simple and enduring values of hard work, avoiding short cuts, and trying in all things to get it right.

In the mid-2000s, Kevin was part of a team of community members who coalesced around the goal of preserving Camp St. Augustine, a historic forest summer camp and trail network in Foxborough.  The Friends Of Camp St. Augustine realized its goal of seeing the Town acquire the land and, in so doing, preserve the grounds, trails, and historic Chapel Meeting House intact.

From 2011 to 2014, Kevin served as a member of the Town Of Foxborough Advisory (Finance) Committee.  In this capacity, he dealt with a broad range of budgetary and policy issues, including municipal contracts, zoning and by-law changes, an ongoing library expansion, an intermunicipal water/sewer service agreement, and a tax increment financing proposal.  The same research skills that Kevin uses in his practice proved instrumental in briefing the Committee and the Town on these and other issues arising in the governance of a New England Town.

Today, Kevin serves as a member of the Town Of Foxborough Board Of Recreation, which has oversight over all recreational facilities and programs in the Town.  This role brings Kevin full circle:  He now sits on the Board that is responsible for maintaining and supervising, among many other facilities, the same Camp St. Augustine that he worked to preserve from development over ten years ago.

Kevin is also proud to serve as Secretary of the Foxborough Founder's Day Planning Committee, helping to preserve and to perpetuate an annual celebration of town, community, and civic pride now in its thirty-first year.

In his spare time, Attorney Powers also volunteers as a mentor for first-year law students through the Suffolk University Law School Alumni-Student Mentor Program and serves as a committee member of the Massachusetts Appeals Court Law Clerk Society.

A law practice where every argument is crafted with precision, with detail, and with pride.

If you are an attorney whose litigation matter calls for skilled co-counsel, or if you are a non-attorney with a legal issue that you need resolved, it would be a pleasure to assist in any way possible.

Attorney Powers regularly handles motions encompassing procedural issues, discovery disputes, and substantive arguments.  The practice is well-equipped to join co-counsel on late notice to develop and brief specific issues, or on substantial advance notice to plan a longer-term strategy for a case.

Kevin enters cases on behalf of non-attorney clients prior to suit, mid-way into the life of an action, and on issues of post-judgment relief after disposition.

Serving the legal profession.

We view the teaching of refined legal advocacy as a core aspect of our commitment to the legal profession.  To learn more about classes and lectures for bar associations and other legal groups, contact us.
